County Auditor Passes First External Quality Review!

County Auditor's Office pass their first external quality review of compliance with Government Auditing Standards.
Media release

The Association of Local Government Auditors conducted an external quality control review of the Washington County Auditor's Office the week of April 14th, 2025. The office received a pass rating for its compliance with Government Auditing Standards from January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2024. A pass is the highest rating an audit organization can attain in the local government auditing profession for an external quality review.

The review results provide assurance to the public that the audits the office produces, and the procedures followed during the review period, conform to Government Auditing Standards. The U.S. Government Accountability Office issues these standards. They provide standards and guidance for the quality and integrity of auditors and audit organizations, including requirements for independence, continuing professional education, supervision, and reporting.

The review highlighted excellent office policies and procedures, a professional, competent workforce, and a highly supportive working environment. The audit noted that the office should pursue adding Government Auditing Standard requirements to the County Auditor's portion of the County Charter and the office's need for support staff.

This is the first external review the Washington County Auditor's Office has undergone in its history as an elected office. Check out the peer review opinion and County Auditor's response.
