The Washington, Clackamas and Yamhill boards of county commissioners held a joint session on May 7 to appoint Courtney Neron to fill a vacant seat for Oregon Senate District 13. Neron will fill the vacancy after the passing of State Senator Aaron Woods in April.

Senate District 13 includes voters in Clackamas, Washington and Yamhill counties and in the cities of King City, Sherwood, Tigard and Wilsonville as well as the urban unincorporated areas of Bull Mountain and Metzger.

Neron has been a member of the Oregon Legislature since 2019 representing Oregon House District 26, including the cities of King City, Sherwood and Tigard and portions of Clackamas, Washington and Yamhill counties.

Neron has taught in the Milton-Freewater, Tigard-Tualatin and Yamhill-Carlton school districts, focusing on subjects such as French, Spanish and the field of special education. Neron earned a bachelor’s degree in French from the University of Oregon and a master’s degree in teaching from Pacific University.

Oregon law requires that a legislative vacancy be filled by county commissioners representing the district in which the vacancy exists. State law also requires anyone appointed to fill the vacancy must have been a member of the same political party as the former legislator for at least 180 days prior to the vacancy.
