We are grateful for the approval Washington County voters have given to both the Library and Public Safety replacement levies. Now more than ever, our community relies on these countywide services to support a literate and safe community.
We are especially thankful to Lisa Tattersall and her staff at Washington County Cooperative Library Services who work in partnership every day within our unique cooperative of nine cities and three non-profit libraries. The passage of the Library Levy will enable reading and literacy support to continue across the system, support some centralized functions that more efficiently link all member libraries together, keep libraries open and accessible for patrons and support popular reading programs for kids countywide.
Regarding the Public Safety Levy, we truly appreciate Sheriff Caprice Massey, District Attorney Kevin Barton, Community Corrections Director Nate Gaoiran and Juvenile Director Jennifer Cearley for the services their departments provide day-in and day-out to keep our community safe. Through passage of the levy, Washington County is also able to continue funding the wraparound services for survivors of domestic violence and abuse that we provide in partnership with the Family Peace Center nonprofit. From investigating and prosecuting car break-ins to stabilizing volatile situations for those needing immediate mental health crisis response to keeping the jail operating at full capacity, the men and women operating our countywide public safety system are better supported as a result of this election.
Again, we are thankful for the trust Washington County voters have placed in us by valuing and continuing these critical services.
