At their business meeting on Tuesday, April 27, the Board of County Commissioners issued a proclamation in honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The proclamation recognizes the many significant contributions made by generations of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders, who enrich our county, nation and communities.

This year's proclamation was read by Specialist Martin Manatt from Housing Services, Controller Adrienne Bagoyo from County Finance, Marketing and Communications Specialist Raymi Felts-Damo from County Cooperative Library Services, and Public Affairs & Communications Coordinator Christian Aniciete from County Administrative Office. Raymi and Christian, along with Kenny Ho from Housing Services, are this year's AANHPI Heritage Month Planning Committee Co-Chairs at Washington County.

This year’s theme is “Power in Unity: Strengthening Communities Together,” which highlights the importance of leveraging AANHPI collective power, telling AANHPI stories, and being bridge builders in the community. During the proclamation, speakers shared, "The imagery of the bridge in this year’s artwork theme inspires us to unite in our common causes. Bridges represent many values that are prevalent in AANHPI communities - innovation, resilience, hard work, connection, and a sense of belonging."

In addition to activities and communications geared to County employees, the 2026 AANHPI Heritage Planning Committee is proud to host the County's 2nd annual AANHPI Heritage Educational Fair on Wednesday, May 27th, from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Public Services Building. The event will feature County employees proudly sharing their AANHPI heritage and culture, as well as local AANHPI community-based organizations and nonprofits. The event is free and open to the public.
