On Tuesday, March 17, the Washington County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted the Rule of Law Resolution and Order to reaffirm the County’s commitment to support the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of Oregon, as well as the Charter, laws and policies of Washington County.

The Rule of Law Resolution and Order upholds the County’s:

  • Commitment to a system of self-government in which all persons, including the government, are accountable under the law.
  • Support for the rule of law.
  • Commitment to delivering county government services in alignment with the County Charter as well as all local, state and federal laws.
  • Support for the role of the United States Congress.
  • Support for the efforts of the Oregon Congressional Delegation.
  • Support for the efforts of the Oregon Attorney General.

“I believe our Board represents the closest and most direct form of government to all the residents of Washington County, and as such, we have a responsibility to model sound leadership to those we serve,” said Board Chair Kathryn Harrington. “This is a particularly harrowing time in the history of our nation which makes the commitment to unity and the mutual respect between people and the law even more important.”

The Board’s action reflects a shared belief in the value of constructive governance and the importance of public trust. By reaffirming these core principles, Washington County remains committed to serving its residents with integrity, fairness and transparency.
