Recommendations for proposed developments in SNR areas
A petition for an Enforcement Order against Washington County has been filed with the Land Conservation and Development Commission (LCDC).
In April, LCDC will decide whether an Enforcement Order should be issued, requiring changes to the County’s SNR standards. The enforcement order may prevent the County from accepting development applications on sites with SNR areas until the updated SNR standards are adopted.
If you are considering a proposed development on a parcel with mapped natural resource areas, we recommend that you discuss options and the materials necessary for your application submittal with your legal counsel or land use attorney. There are additional materials, beyond the standard application materials required by the Community Development Code (CDC) that may be included as art of a development application. We also recommend that you and your attorney request a pre-application conference with our Development Review/Current Planning staff.

Review this document if you are considering developing on sites with mapped natural resources while we are updating our natural resource standards to comply with current legal orders.

Pre-application conferences are strongly encouraged for proposed developments on with mapped SNRs. Complete the form to schedule an appointment.

Community plans reflect the Comprehensive Framework Plan for the Urban Area policies and strategies. Requirements and standards are applied to development applications including, land divisions and new development.

Washington County staff uses Community Development Code (CDC) requirements to decide whether development applications can be approved and what conditions should be applied.
