Community Project Art Nights

DD community art project of colored leaves and hands being assembled on canvases by volunteers

This spring, the Washington County DD team hosted multiple Art Night events, inviting program participants to come make art with us. Over 100 attendees were guided in making their mark on a larger community art project by coloring, painting and stenciling on individual project sheets. Staff art group volunteers will then cut and assemble those mini works of art into a series of three large, collaged canvases to be displayed in our offices and featured at the upcoming 2026 I/DD Art Show.

We welcome and encourage all our Art Night participants and their families to attend the 2026 I/DD Art Show held at our offices on Thursday, June 25, 4-7 p.m., to enjoy viewing the art and how their creativity contributed to this community project.

Thank you to the DD staff, Family Justice Center, and provider partners that donated materials and volunteered time to make these events a success and bring this idea into reality.

About the I/DD Art Work Group

Art is a vital form of communication and empowerment, especially for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It allows people to share their stories, showcase their talents, and engage in meaningful ways that go beyond words. The Washington County Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) Art Work Group seeks to provide program participants and staff with a welcoming space to connect and express themselves while developing and growing more local opportunities for both making and sharing art.

Inspired by the long-running Multnomah County I/DD Art Show and guided by their Art Committee, we hope to bring a similar gallery experience to our own community. We’ve established an internal work group dedicated to fostering creativity, connection, and self-expression among program participants and staff.
