Washington County is now StormReady!
This designation, awarded to us by the National Weather Service, means we actively work to keep the public prepared and informed about natural disasters and dangerous weather events.
As a StormReady community, we are better equipped to handle severe weather like extreme heat, windstorms, winter storms, excessive rain and flooding. We do this by:
- Maintaining a 24/7 emergency alert program
- Sustaining backup communication systems
- Monitoring and sharing local weather conditions
- Educating about and promoting preparedness within our community
- Having detailed severe weather plans and procedures
- Training responders and exercising plans to maintain readiness
By proactively preparing for severe weather, we can minimize injuries, property damage and financial losses associated with storms.
This certification demonstrates our commitment to safety and preparedness. We are proud of the work our responders do before, duringand after weather events, which helps ensure our community's safety and makes us StormReady.
