Board of County Commissioners hosts Community Budget Town Hall

On May 12, at 7 p.m., the Board of County Commissioners will hold a blended in-person and virtual Community Town Hall meeting focused on the County’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2025-26 and the county’s ongoing financial challenges.

The public is cordially invited to join the Board of County Commissioners for a combined in-person and virtual Community Town Hall on Monday, May 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Participants will hear from Board members and key staff about the proposed FY 2025-26 budget that would close a $20.5 million gap between projected revenues and expenditures. This persistent gap between expenses and General Fund revenue is directly linked to increases in population and demands for service, as well as rising operational costs, all within the context of Oregon’s constrained property tax system.

As stated by County Administrator Tanya Ange, “We have sought to preserve services that the community relies on as much as possible. Although we are continuing this approach again for a fifth year in a row, there is now no other place to turn than to consider eliminating some services altogether.”

During the forum, participants can ask questions and share their perspectives with board members. The meeting will be held at the Washington County Public Services Building Auditorium, 155 North First Avenue in downtown Hillsboro. Questions and input will be gathered during the Town Hall and answers will be posted to the Washington County website.

Those who wish to attend virtually are invited to join the meeting via Zoom or watch the live stream on the County’s YouTube channel. Spanish interpretation will be provided via Zoom throughout the event. Interpretation services for other languages are also available upon request. Contact the Washington County Administrative Office at 503-846-8685 or email [email protected] by Thursday, May 8, to request these services.
