Free Assistance with New Recycling Requirements

On February 16, 2010, Washington County Board of Commissioners joined with the cities in our area to adopt a Business Recycling Requirement ordinance to boost business recycling rates.

Businesses in Washington County are now required to:

1. Place recycling receptacles throughout the workplace.

2. Post signs at collection areas that identify materials to be recycled.

3. Recycle all paper, cardboard and containers (cans, plastic bottles and tubs, and glass bottles and jars).

The new requirements apply to businesses, schools, public agencies and non-profit organizations. Home-based businesses are exempt from this requirement.

Washington County Recycle at Work staff offers assistance to businesses to meet the new recycling requirements by providing internal recycling containers, signs and educational materials to boost recycling participation.
