Timber Road reopens after successful landslide repair project

Road crews may be present in the area as they complete final tasks.
Media release

Timber Road has fully reopened more than two years after it was closed from Strassel to Cochran roads due to increasing landslide movement.

Our contractor finished paving, striping and installing guardrail and signs Thursday (May 1). Road crews may be present in the area as they complete final tasks.

After the road closed in March 2023, staff and consultants evaluated the slide, decided on a project concept and designed a repair . Construction began in September 2024. Our contractor excavated the slope down to stable ground and replaced the embankment with stronger materials. The road was rebuilt on top. The nearly $5 million project was paid through the County Road Fund.

The completion of the repair will reconnect the Timber community and reopen the important connection between OR 6 and US 26 for industry, recreation and travel.
