People in Southwest Beaverton now can catch a ride on SPOT Southwest. SPOT stands for Shared Public On-Demand Transit, and this new service offers free, door-to-door rides to all community members.
The SPOT Southwest service area covers neighborhoods currently lacking TriMet bus service, including South Cooper Mountain, Progress Ridge, Murrayhill, and River Terrace. SPOT also connects riders with TriMet’s Washington Square Transit Center, where frequent service line 76 and other TriMet bus routes provide access to regional destinations.
Similar to rideshare services, SPOT allows users to request same-day rides using the SPOT Ride app or by making a phone call. SPOT service runs Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and uses small 8-passenger vans that are ADA accessible and equipped with bicycle racks.
“Feedback we gathered through engagement with the community helped set the service boundaries, hours of operation, and the TriMet service hub to connect with,” said Reza Farhoodi, Washington County Senior Transportation Planner. “We hope SPOT is useful to anyone needing to get to work, school, errands, appointments, and more.”
SPOT is a microtransit project aimed at piloting a new form of public transit in the region. By partnering with Ride Connection, Washington County is making this service free of charge to a rapidly growing part of the county in need of transportation options.
The Microtransit Pilot is funded through a Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund Discretionary Grant that will allow SPOT to operate through mid-2027.
