Starting in August, Washington County will begin replacing the aging culvert at Willow Creek.
The new, larger culvert is designed to support healthier creek conditions, allow wildlife to move safely under the roadway, and improve water flow.
To improve safety, the road at the culvert will be raised by 8-10 feet at the crossing, removing the existing dip, giving drivers a clearer view of the road ahead and the ability to react faster to any hazards, obstacles, or other vehicles.
Road Closure and Detour
Road users should expect a full road closure between NW 174th Terrace and NW Cambray Street to complete the culvert replacement and roadway elevation work.
Closure dates: August 3-December 1, 2026
- Vehicles will use the signed detours via Cornell Road
- Neighborhood routes will be open for local access, cyclists and pedestrians only
The culvert replacement is part of the larger Walker Road Phase 3 (173rd Avenue to 185th Avenue) Improvement Project.
Walker Road Improvement
The Walker Road Improvement Project is a multiphase effort to enhance one of the County's most important connections between Hillsboro and Beaverton.
When complete, Walker Road Phase 3 (173rd Avenue to 185th Avenue), will feature:
- Additional travel lanes for a total of two lanes in each direction
- Buffered bike lanes
- Improved sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps
- Enhanced streetlighting
- Upgraded stormwater drainage
- Corridor landscaping
This segment of Walker Road is being constructed in coordination with the Tualatin Valley Water District and Beaverton's North Transmission Line Intertie improvement projects, helping reduce repeated construction impacts and support long-term utility reliability.
Project Funding
NW Walker Road improvement projects are supported through the Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP), which has improved infrastructure in Washington County for 40 years.
Additional funding for waterline improvements comes from the City of Beaverton and the Tualatin Valley Water District.
