HILLSBORO, Ore. — Washington County Board Chair Kathryn Harrington has announced her resignation, with her last day being October 2. Effective immediately, responsibility for presiding over Board meetings will shift to Vice Chair Jerry Willey or, when necessary, Commissioner Jason Snider serving as Chair Pro Tem.
In addition, Chair Harrington will no longer serve as facilitator of future Board meetings, accept internal or external meetings, or retain security access to County facilities. This allows the Chair to focus on her health while we all support a smooth transition.
"I am grateful to the people of Washington County for the opportunity to serve them in our local county government,” said Board Chair Kathryn Harrington.
“We respect Chair Harrington’s decision to resign and appreciate her partnership in helping the County Board of Commissioners move work forward without interruption in service to the community and employees. We will continue to work together in the weeks ahead to ensure a seamless transition and support her focus on taking care of her health at this time,” said Chair Pro Tem Jason Snider.
Commissioner Jerry Willey will continue to serve in his capacity as Vice Chair until a new County Chair has been elected in the November 3 General Election and sworn into service on January 3, 2027.
Chair Harrington was first elected in 2018 and has focused on improving transparency and accountability in government, expanding affordable housing, addressing homelessness and advancing transportation solutions.
During her tenure, Harrington improved transparency and rigor of Washington County government through establishing consistent planning, engagement and delivery of services with efforts such as the Strategic Plan Update, annual budget process, capital improvement planning and more.
“The Washington County government is a stronger, more resilient and transparent local government in part due to Chair Harrington’s contributions. Washington County is grateful for Chair Harrington’s years of service and her dedication to the community,” Chair Pro Tem Jason Snider.
