Media release

The Washington County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday (May 2) proclaimed May National Building Safety Month in support of work performed by the Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT) Building Services staff.  Read the proclamation

Founded by the International Code Council, Building Safety Month is celebrated each May to raise awareness about critical safety issues. Building codes, and the officials who enforce them, make communities safer and more resilient. Homes and other buildings built in compliance with building safety codes result in resilient structures that minimize the risks of death, injury and property damage.

This year’s theme is “It Starts With You.” Throughout May, LUT will reinforce the importance of building safety starting at home, the work of building safety professionals, advocating for safe communities and solving challenges together. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook to learn more.
