Washington County and Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will be replacing the Cornelius Pass Road bridge over Rock Creek this summer and early fall.
Originally built in 1946, the existing bridge is still functional but was constructed much narrower than what today’s traffic requires. It was not designed for modern freight vehicles or today’s larger, heavier trucks. The new single-span bridge will include two vehicle lanes, wide shoulders, and will be able to accommodate heavy trucks and cargo.
A full road closure is required to remove and replace the bridge.
Road Closure and Detours
Cornelius Pass Road (OR-127) will be closed between Germantown Road and Kaiser Road from July 15 to September 29, 2026.
Detours are in place:
Bicycles and Passenger Vehicles
Cyclists: Use Old Cornelius Pass Road (purple)
Cars and light trucks: Use Germantown and Kaiser roads (green)
Trucks
Trucks: Take U.S. 26, I-405 and U.S. 30 (blue)
Trucks with hazardous cargo: Take OR 217 to I-5 to U.S. 30 (red)
Once completed, the bridge will be transferred to ODOT for all future maintenance.
The cost of the new bridge is $6.5 million dollars. Funding for the new bridge comes from $5.6 million in Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) bridge funds and an additional $1.3 million in Regional Flexible Funding Allocation (RFFA) from Metro and Washington County’s Road Capital Fund.
