19th Avenue is one of five main entry points to the City of Cornelius. The street developed over time with inconsistent improvements, and lacks sidewalks and bicycle lanes along most of this section. 19th Avenue will provide local access and link downtown Cornelius to the future Council Creek Regional Trail.
The improvements include:
- Mini roundabout at 19th Avenue and Holladay Street to improve traffic flow
- Bulb-outs and narrowed pavement to reduce traffic speed
- Sidewalks with ADA-complaint curb ramps
- Bike lanes
- Street lighting
- Enhanced crossings at the future Council Creek Regional Trail
- Improved stormwater facilities
