Washington County is now accepting applications for the Sidewalk Repair Grant Program, which provides financial assistance to property owners needing to repair or replace damaged sidewalk panels within the Urban Road Maintenance District (URMD). Community members are encouraged to apply if they have sidewalks in need of repair.

Safe, accessible sidewalks support walkability and strengthen neighborhood connections. Under Oregon law, property owners are responsible for maintaining sidewalks adjacent to their property. This grant helps reduce the financial burden of required repairs and improves safety for all who use sidewalks—whether walking, rolling, or accessing transit.

The Sidewalk Repair Grant Program offers:

  • Reimbursement of up to $2,000 for eligible sidewalk repairs
  • Replacement of damaged or displaced panels
  • Repairs performed by a licensed contractor
  • Funding provided through the URMD, which invests in road and pedestrian infrastructure
  • Required confirmation of eligibility before work begins

The program can award up to $100,000 per fiscal year, and funding is available now for property owners ready to complete necessary sidewalk work within the URMD.

“Sidewalks play an essential role in keeping our neighborhoods connected and accessible,” said Sherri Grey, Community Programs Coordinator. “This program helps residents complete needed repairs that improve safety for everyone.”
