Update: Deputy’s Attacker Lodged in Washington County Jail

On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, 27-year-old Joshua A. Wesley was released from a local hospital. Deputies transported Wesley to the Washington County Jail where they were booked on the following charges:

  • Assault on a Public Safety Officer
  • Attempted Theft in the first degree x2
  • Robbery in the third degree
  • Probation Violation

Wesley was transported and lodged in the jail without incident.


Update: Deputy’s Body Worn Camera Video Released

October 31, 2022

On Monday, October 24, 2022, shortly before 3 a.m., a Washington County Sheriff’s deputy was at Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center’s Emergency Department with a 27-year-old male named Joshua Weasley. During the hospital admission process, Weasley charged the deputy and attempted to take their firearm.

The unprovoked attack was captured on the deputy’s body-worn camera. The camera footage of the attack is being released today and can be viewed here.

Weasley continues to be treated for his injuries and remains at a local hospital.

The deputy attacked on October 24 is Deputy Zane Hafeman, and he remains on critical incident leave, which is standard.

The Washington County Major Crimes Team continues to lead this investigation.


Deputy Attacked in Hospital Emergency Department

October 24, 2022

On Monday, October 24, 2022, shortly before 3 a.m., a Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputy was at Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center’s Emergency Department with an adult male who was on a civil hold. During the hospital admission process, the adult male charged the deputy and attempted to take the deputy’s firearm.

The adult male ignored the deputy’s commands to stop and continued to attack the deputy and try to gain possession of the deputy’s firearm. During the struggle, the adult male was stabbed multiple times by the deputy.

At no time did the deputy lose control of their firearm and no shots were fired.

The adult male was transported to a different local hospital to be treated for his injuries.

A hospital staff member attempted to assist the deputy during the struggle and sustained minor injuries.

The Washington County Major Crimes Team is leading this investigation.

The deputy involved in the attack was placed on critical incident leave, which is standard.

The Washington County Major Crimes Team is comprised of detectives from law enforcement agencies throughout the county and is coordinated by the Washington County District Attorney's Office. The team responds to major crimes that occur in Washington County.
