On Friday, June 6, 14 members of the Latino community graduated as members of Master Recycler Class 73. This was the first community-based, culturally specific course in recycling and sustainability in Washington County, and the first recycling course in the region where every participant speaks Spanish.

Eva Aguilar, a bilingual program educator with Washington County Solid Waste & Recycling, recently received the Recycler of the Year Award at the Association of Oregon Recyclers (AOR) Conference in Eugene. Ms. Aguilar was recognized for her outstanding efforts in striving for equitable access for the Latino community related to waste prevention and recycling.

Information for people whose garbage wasn't picked up this week due to the winter storm

At their annual conference in Portland last week, the Association of Oregon Recyclers awarded its Recycler of the Year award in the education and promotion program category to the “Eat Smart, Waste Less Challenge.”

Applications are being accepted through August 14 for the Master Recycling series.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, June 12, 10 a.m., at the Public Services Building auditorium, 155 N. First Avenue, Hillsboro. Any person may attend the meeting and provide comments to the Solid Waste Advisory Committee regarding the proposed rate changes.

Businesses that request a free workplace recycling evaluation will receive a Green Team kit containing reusable bags, durable drink tumblers and more.

Due to the winter weather, residents may see a delay in their garbage collection. Full details are available on county's website.
