UPDATE: Deputy Dozé Released From Hospital, Escorted Home

Deputy Chuck Dozé was released from the hospital to continue his recovery and rehabilitation at home. After spending 13 days at the hospital, Deputy Dozé returned home with his family by his side and a law enforcement escort.

Sheriff Pat Garrett said, “Chuck’s release from the hospital makes today a day of hope and strengthens us as a family and community. We are all very grateful for the love, support, and prayers that continue for Chuck and his family.”

Deputy Dozé was shot seven times on July 26. Three of the bullets were stopped by his body armor. He was shot in each arm and twice in the head. Deputy Dozé lost his left eye and multiple teeth, in addition to breaking bones in each arm.

The Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the Beaverton, Forest Grove, Hillsboro, Sherwood, and Tigard police departments for helping cover calls for service during Deputy Dozé’s release, allowing our deputies to attend.

The Sheriff’s Office also thanks the following agencies who participated in the escort: the Beaverton, Camas, Eugene, Hillsboro, Lake Oswego, Milwaukie, Portland, Washougal, West Linn, and Vancouver police departments; the Clackamas and Clark County (WA) sheriff’s offices, Washington State Patrol, and Oregon Department of Transportation.

The Sheriff’s Office continues to receive numerous inquiries from community members and the public on donating money to help Deputy Dozé and his family. The Washington County Police Officer Association (WCPOA) has set up the only approved GoFundMe donation account for Deputy Dozé.
