Media release

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in an investigation involving fraudulent activities and financial exploitation of a vulnerable individual. A Washington County grand jury has indicted Blancy Mitchell on several charges, including aggravated theft in the first degree with a victim over 65 years old and four counts of theft in the first degree. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes Unit also urge anyone who may have been a victim of similar crimes involving Mitchell to come forward.

The investigation revealed that the victim, who lives within the community of Aloha, received a notification from their bank stating that their account was overdrawn. Subsequently, it was discovered that significant amounts of money had been unlawfully withdrawn from their account within a short period.

Detectives learned Mitchell initially contacted the victim at their home and proposed roof cleaning and repair services, eventually offering a full replacement. During this process, Mitchell accompanied the victim to multiple banks and coerced them into making large withdrawals, resulting in a total loss exceeding $34,000.

On September 22, 2023, a Washington County grand jury indicted Mitchell for Aggravated Theft in the first degree with a victim over 65 years old and four counts of theft in the first degree. Mitchell was arrested on October 19, 2023, but has since bailed out of jail.

The Sheriff's Office requests the public's help identifying additional victims who may have been defrauded by Mitchell's schemes targeting elderly individuals. If you or someone you know has been affected by Mitchell's actions or have information about this case, please contact detectives at the Washington County Sheriff's Office by calling 503 846-2700.
