County providing place for wildfire evacuees and animals to shelter

The community is cordially invited to share in a brief program and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Public Services Building in downtown Hillsboro to commemorate meeting an important milestone in the County’s disaster preparedness efforts.

Washington County Facilities and Parks Services works to maintain county-owned properties which includes an ongoing effort to combat invasive and noxious plant species. An invasive English holly tree was recently removed from the Courthouse grounds to protect the landscape, including six giant sequoia “heritage trees” planted by pioneers at the site in 1880.

Washington County has received the annual Risk Management Achievement Award from Oregon Public Risk Management Association (OR-PRiMA) for implementation of a successful, 24-hour Workers’ Compensation Injury Call Center.

Washington County Parks recently received two grants that will provide a variety of improvements to Scoggins Valley Park, home to Henry Hagg Lake in western Washington County.

Visitors to Scoggins Valley Park at Henry Hagg Lake are urged to use personal floatation devices at all times, regardless of swimming ability. Parents and other responsible adults must monitor their children’s activities at all times and ensure they wear properly fitted personal floatation devices when on, in or near the water.

Washington County will soon begin a two-year construction project to ensure that the Charles D. Cameron Public Services Building (PSB) will withstand a major Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake. Construction will start in early 2017 and is expected to continue through 2018. Some County services will be temporarily relocated during construction to nearby office space in downtown Hillsboro.

Washington County’s Risk Manager, Eva LaBonte, was recently selected to serve on the Risk and Insurance Management Society’s Standards and Practices Council.
