Help for wildfire evacuees at Fairgrounds
The Washington County Fair Complex in Hillsboro, now re-branded as Westside Commons, is accepting animals from those forced to evacuate from the Chehalem Mountain Bald Peak Fire and the Powerline Fire.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Posse has offered to care for the animals overnight if the owners of the animals cannot stay on site due to trying to save their homes, but the owners still must come by daily to provide care. RV spots and camp sites are available for owners of the animals to stay on site, and for other fire evacuees as well.
“Fairgrounds facilities have a long history of providing aid when there is an emergency need, and we want to do all that we can to help those forced to evacuate as a result of these wildfires,” says Westside Commons Venue Manager, Leah Perkins-Hagele. “We also want to thank our Washington County Sheriff’s Posse for offering to provide overnight care for animals if the owners cannot stay on site. That is a tremendous help for us and the owners of the animals.” Perkins-Hagele says, currently, the care of the animals is being handled and is adequately staffed, so there is no need for volunteers at this point.
