Grant Awards to Help with Improvements at Scoggins Valley Park

Washington County Parks Receives Grant Funding for Improvements to Scoggins Valley Park

Washington County Parks recently received two grants that will provide a variety of improvements to Scoggins Valley Park, home to Henry Hagg Lake in western Washington County. A grant for $290,595 was received from the Oregon State Marine Board and a grant for $100,000 was received from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The grant funding, along with matching funds provided by Washington County, will create numerous park improvements over the next several months.

The Oregon State Marine Board Boating Facility Grant Program, which invests fees and taxes paid by motorized boaters for boating facility improvements, awarded Washington County Parks $290,595 to repair and repave the drive aisles and parking lot at C-Ramp and at Eagle Point Recreation Area between the road and the lake. The grant award will also allow for associated improvements including repair and replacement of curbs and wheel stops, as well as restriping and stenciling of the parking lots.

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation awarded Washington County Parks $100,000 for accessibility improvements including the addition of new restrooms at both C-Ramp and Elks Recreation Area. A new accessible path from the south C-Ramp parking area to the restroom will also be added, along with a new park entrance sign.

As noted by Washington County Parks Superintendent Carl Switzer, "The timing of the receipt of two grants is remarkable, allowing us to make many noticeable enhancements which will improve the public's ability to use and enjoy the park." Project work will begin this fall and is scheduled to be completed before the 2018 summer season.

Scoggins Valley Park is located 8 miles southwest of Forest Grove, at the base of the Oregon Coast Range. Henry Hagg Lake, an 1,100 acre, fish-stocked reservoir located within the park, offers visitors many outdoor recreational activities. Owned by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and maintained and operated by Washington County Parks, Scoggins Valley Park features numerous day use areas including picnic shelters, boat launch facilities, more than 14 miles of hiking trails, an 18-hole disc golf course and a large fishing pier. The park receives approximately 750,000 visitors per year and is very popular with watersport enthusiasts and anglers alike.
