The 25-year partnership of implementing waste reductions programs between Washington County and Metro has played a key role in achieving statewide goals and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
This partnership, entered into between Washington County and Metro in 1990 through the Annual Waste Reduction Program agreement, has resulted in increased materials recovery and reaching the state mandated 64 percent recycling rate for the Metro area. This continuing regional partnership between Washington County and Metro will be integral to preserving the economic, social and environmental health of the county for future generations.
