News article
Release date: 01/28/2014
Sponsored by: Board of Commissioners
American history includes the chronicle of men and women of African ancestry who prevailed with extraordinary courage and faith to build lives for themselves and their families while contributing immeasurably to the strength and character of our nation.

This year especially, we celebrate African American History in light of “The Golden Jubilee of the Civil Rights Act” which embodies a 50 year milestone in the struggle for civil rights in the United States, protecting individuals from discriminatory practices based on race, religion, national origin and gender.

This proclamation dedicates February 1st – February 28th, 2014 as African American History Month in Washington County.

Read the proclamation.
