Board of Commissioners supports Safe Sleep Village project
The Washington County Board of Commissioners unanimously supports the county’s proposed Safe Sleep Village project to lessen the spread of the COVID-19 virus among the members of our community who are houseless.
We are grateful for the efforts of the planning team, including staff from the Department of Health and Human Services, Housing Services and Westside Commons, along with our partners at the City of Hillsboro, for the opportunity to provide a temporary, managed, outdoor camping location for 50 adults from August through the month of December.
Over the last several years, the county has engaged in many efforts to prevent and end homelessness in our community and the COVID-19 crisis has brought this challenge to the forefront as never before. In the interest of public health and safety, it makes sense to add this new, temporary resource to our continuum of support for this vulnerable population.
La Junta de Comisionados del Condado de Washington apoya por unanimidad el proyecto propuesto Safe Sleep Village del condado para disminuir la propagación del virus COVID-19 entre los miembros de nuestra comunidad que no tienen hogar.
Agradecemos los esfuerzos del equipo de planificación, incluyendo el personal del Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos, Servicios de Vivienda y Westside Commons, junto con nuestros socios en la Ciudad de Hillsboro, por la oportunidad de proporcionar un campamento al aire libre, administrado y temporal. La ubicación es para 50 adultos y el periodo de apertura será desde agosto hasta el mes de diciembre.
En los últimos años, el condado ha realizado muchos esfuerzos para prevenir y terminar con la falta de vivienda en nuestra comunidad, y la crisis de COVID-19 ha llevado este desafío a la vanguardia como nunca antes. En interés de la salud y la seguridad públicas, tiene sentido agregar este nuevo recurso temporal a nuestro continuo apoyo para esta población vulnerable.
