Human Rights Day and Week - 2014

Proclamation presented on BOC 12/02/14
News article
Release date: 12/02/2014
Sponsored by: Board of Commissioners

The Human Rights Council of Washington County, in its efforts to promote equal rights for every person in our community, requests that the Washington County Board of Commissioners issue a special proclamation designating December 7-13 as Human Rights Week and December 10 as Human Rights Day.

December 10 marks the 66th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. On that date in 1948, member nations, irrespective of their diverse political, economic and social systems, unanimously agreed upon the fundamental rights that all people share, solely on the basis of their common humanity. The Board of Commissioners echo and memorialize that sentiment today with their own proclamation

Launched in October 2006, the Human Rights Council of Washington County works to promote respect and dignity of all by supporting a community where every person is valued, and equity and diversity are embraced through action, advocacy, education and collaboration.
