Human Rights Proclamation 2017

Established in 2006, the Human Rights Council of Washington County works to promote respect and dignity of all persons in the County through action, advocacy, education and collaboration.

The goals of the Council are to promote human rights as a core value of public and private sectors; to listen to members of marginalized communities who may be fearful about claiming their rights; to provide valuable feedback to local leaders on issues of equity and diversity; to respect and reflect the cultural diversity of our community; and to foster mutual understanding among all of our community’s residents.

December 10, 2017 marks the 69th anniversary of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. The Human Rights Council of Washington County is asking each city in the County to issue a special proclamation and to take a few minutes during a Council meeting in early December to publicly acknowledge the importance of human rights in our communities.

Read the Proclamation.
