Proclamation—Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

In Washington County, numerous organizations, groups and individuals are working to eliminate domestic violence in our community. The Washington County Sheriff's Office collaborates with other county law enforcement agencies, District Attorney's Office, Domestic Violence Resource Center and the Family Justice Center to address domestic violence crimes.

These allied agencies and inter-agency teams are committed to increasing victim safety and holding offenders accountable in all domestic violence cases through a coordinated response that considers the needs of victims and their children. These intervention strategies are geared toward protecting victims from further harm and ending the cycle of violence.

In recognition of these efforts and in keeping with the establishment of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month by Congress in 1989, the Washington County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed the month of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Washington County.
