Feb. 23 Open House for Porter Road bridge replacement project

An open house for the Porter Road bridge replacement project will be held from 5-7 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Forest Grove Community Auditorium, 1915 Main St., Forest Grove. Information about the OR 47/Verboort roundabout project will also be available at this open house.

The event, sponsored by the Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation, is a chance for the public to learn more about the proposed design for the upcoming bridge replacement project. Project staff will be on hand to answer questions and solicit comments. No formal presentation is planned.

The existing weight-limited timber bridge on Porter Road over Council Creek is functionally obsolete and showing signs of decay. This project will replace the substandard bridge with a longer spanning concrete structure. The new bridge will accommodate two lanes of vehicle traffic, bicyclists, and occasional farm equipment. Construction is anticipated to begin August 2016.

This project requires a three- to four-month closure of Porter Road at the bridge starting late summer 2016. Notification will be sent out as soon as closure dates are confirmed.
