Civil Process and Document Service

The Sheriff’s Office Civil Unit is responsible for booking, serving, and enforcing court orders and documents issued by the courts.

The Sheriff’s Office Civil Unit is responsible for booking, serving, and enforcing court orders and documents issued by the courts, such as small claim notices, writs of garnishment, restraining orders, and foreclosures of real or personal property.

Trained staff ensure all court orders are complete before serving the documents to the person named on the paper or a responsible party, when applicable by law. See below for more information on document service, if you have further questions, please direct them to our Civil Unit at 503-846-2537.

Court papers in need of service may be dropped off in-person during business hours, or in our Civil Unit drop-box located in our Hillsboro lobby 24/7. Be sure to include the associated cost as listed below.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm 


State law or county ordinance establish the fees charged for document service. Acceptable payments include cash, checks or money orders made payable to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

(Summons and complaint with or without attachments, small claims notices, eviction summons and complaint, notice of restitution, citation, subpoena, orders, etc.) 

For more than two parties at one address, the fee is $28.00 per person. 

1-2 parties (same address)
