On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, the Board of County Commissioners issued a proclamation dedicating July 16-22 as Community Corrections and Juvenile Justice Community Supervision Week in Washington County. The proclamation honors community corrections and juvenile justice professionals who are responsible for supervising adult and juvenile justice-involved individuals in the community. They utilize human-centered and strengths-based approaches which are effective in meeting clients where they are at, holding them accountable to the conditions of their supervision and supporting positive behavior change.

As noted by Commissioner Nafisa Fai, following the Board’s unanimous vote to support the proclamation, “Providing alternatives to incarceration, offering support, promoting rehabilitation and striving to address the underlying causes of crime is so important. This proclamation serves as a reminder that our job as commissioners is also to make sure that our public safety system provides the right response at the right time.”
