In keeping with Washington County's commitment to sustainable practices, including programs that support multi-modal transportation, three new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are now available for public use.

Located on the west side of the Charles D. Cameron Public Services Building, just behind the Shirley Huffman Auditorium, the charging stations provide "Level 2" charging capability for J-1772 compatible electric vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt.

The chargers were obtained with grant assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy, through funding by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. They are part of the "Blink Network" and can be accessed through an online registration process at www.blinknetwork.com/membership.html

Charging requires a nominal fee and, although membership in the network is not required, users do obtain the best rate by joining the network. Prices range from $1 to $2 per hour based on membership preference.

A two-hour parking limit has been placed on each charging station, however, per City of Hillsboro ordinance, they are also to remain open to anyone using any kind of vehicle authorized for disabled parking.  Additional disabled parking spaces at this location are always available for use at any time.

Installation of the EV charging stations are a part of the County's overall sustainability framework, principles and objectives. These guidelines support responsible and efficient management of public resources, and emphasize Washington County's commitment to best practices and continuous improvement in partnership with all community stakeholders.
