Questionnaire Assistance Centers Open throughout Washington County

Nearly 20 Questionnaire Assistance Centers (QACs) will open in key locations throughout Washington County this week to help residents complete and mail back their 2010 Census forms. Field staff from the U.S. Census Bureau will run the centers from March 19 through April 19 in churches, libraries, community centers and other public gathering places. The full list of QACs is provided below.

More than 120 million households will receive 10-question census forms this month, complete with a 42-cent postage-paid return envelope. Residents who do not mail the form back may receive a visit from a census taker who will ask questions from the form.

Any personal data provided for the census is protected under federal law.

The 2010 Census, which is required by the U.S. Constitution every 10 years, will help communities receive more than $400 billion in federal funds each year. These federal dollars support hospitals, job training centers, schools, senior centers, transportation projects, emergency services, social services and homeless programs.

Census forms are available in six languages: English, Spanish, Chinese (simplified), Korean, Russian and Vietnamese. English/Spanish bi-lingual forms will be mailed to areas with large numbers of Spanish-speaking-only households. Language assistance guides will also be available in 59 different languages to help people fill out the English version of the census form. Large print and Braille guides and a language reference dictionary are also available.

For more information about language assistance guides and translations of the form visit 2010census.gov. Telephone assistance in filling out the form is available in Spanish (1-866-928-2010), Chinese (1-866-955-2010), Vietnamese (1-866-945-2010) and Russian (1-866-965-2010) in addition to English (1-866-872-6868).
