Berger to Lead Community Corrections Department

Washington County Administrator Robert Davis has announced that Steve Berger will lead the county's Department of Community Corrections beginning in January 2014.

Berger was the top candidate from a nation-wide recruitment effort and has over 26 years of experience in community corrections. He served for 12 years in probation and parole in Washington County before spending 11 years as the director of community corrections for Klamath County. In 2010, Berger returned to Washington County to become the assistant director of the Community Corrections Department.

"Steve is very well prepared to lead the department as it continues to be a model for community corrections programs throughout the state and nation. We look forward to working with Steve in this new role," said County Administrator Robert Davis.

The Washington County Community Corrections Department provides probation and parole services, operates a residential treatment facility and provides treatment and support services to adult offenders. The department is supported by an annual budget of $18 million and a staff of approximately 100 regular employees and 60 temporary employees.
