Spring Pool/Spa Operation and Maintenance Class

This class is intended for non-Certified Pool Operator personnel. Space is limited.

Registration is now open for Washington County Environmental Health’s spring pool/spa operation and maintenance class. This workshop is designed for non-Certified Pool Operator personnel. It is intended for those responsible for the water quality, record keeping, chemical storage and general upkeep of a public swimming pool or spa in Washington County. This includes pools and spas affiliated with apartments, condos, schools, recreational facilities, and travelers’ accommodations.

The cost is $30 per person, and payment must be received to secure your spot. Class size is limited to 60, first come, first served.

Washington Street Conference Center is located on the south side of the Hatfield Max station on the street level of the parking garage. Attendees may park for free on levels 5-6.

Participants will leave the workshop better able to:

  • Calculate water volume and turnover times
  • Understand basic filtration systems
  • Conduct water testing chemistry
  • Determine corrective action needed
  • Correct basic water chemistry imbalances
  • Understand closure criteria: rules and safety
  • Relate water chemistry to pool equipment durability and swimmer safety
  • Understand what the inspector is looking for and how to always be ready for an unannounced inspection
  • Know how to deal with fecal accidents in pools
  • Review state and federal rule changes
  • Keep legal records: This is for your protection
  • Confidently maintain a safe public pool

Class overview:

The course will provide valuable handouts and information about pool rules and regulations. You’ll also have a chance to get your questions answered, so come prepared to take notes and ask questions. Bring your test kit and pool volume (or dimensions to figure it out).
