Andy Cartmill Named "Educator of the Week"

Washington County Employee Honored for Outstanding Work in Addiction Services

Washington County Department of Health and Human Services employee Andy Cartmill was named "Educator of the Week" today by K103-FM. Cartmill has served as the County's senior program educator for Addiction Services for the past 15 years.

In 2011-12, Cartmill presented to more people than ever before, conducting 70 presentations to 3,510 students, high risk kids, law enforcement personnel, parents, teachers, mental health and addiction professionals, jail inmates and service organization members.

"Andy is a dynamic, knowledgeable and compassionate speaker," writes Senior Addictions Coordinator Kathy Prenevost in her nomination of Cartmill. She goes on to say, "His approach does not involve scare tactics. Instead he encourages people to accept individual responsibility and to make informed choices around the issues of drug, alcohol and gambling behavior."

K103's Educator of the Week began in 1996 out of a desire to put a public spotlight on the creative and dedicated individuals who make up the teaching profession.
