Marni Storey, RN, MS, has been selected to replace retiring Kathleen O’Leary as public health division manager at Washington County Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Storey joined Clark County Public Health in June 1999 as the clinical services and communicable disease program manager. Since then, she has held a variety of positions within the county and managed several different programs. In July 2011, Storey was named the department's deputy director. This past April, she was appointed interim public health director after former director John Wiesman left to become the Washington Secretary of Health.

Storey was one of 20 nurse leaders nationally to be selected for the three-year Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellowship. The program, which began in September, provides Storey and her colleagues with coaching, education and other support to strengthen their abilities to lead teams and organizations that work to improve health and health care.

“I am looking forward to meeting the staff in Washington County, learning more about the key public health issues and leading public health in the county where I live,” says Storey. “Public health is my passion and I believe that the prevention approach to public health will continue to contribute to better health for everyone in Washington County.”

Rod Branyan, director of Washington County HHS, says, “Marni brings more than 25 years of diverse experience in the public health field, is a proven leader, and will be a welcome addition to the department's management team.”

Kathleen O’Leary, RN, MPH, is retiring after nearly six years as the Washington County public health division manager and a 30-year public health career.

Storey’s first day at Washington County is October 23.
