Washington County is extending its cooling center operations at Wingspan Event & Conference Center. Originally scheduled to run through Monday evening, Wingspan will welcome people and their pets on Tuesday, June 29, from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Wingspan is located at 801 NE 34th Avenue in Hillsboro. Parking and entrance on the south side of the building. TriMet bus routes 46 and 48. If MAX Light Rail is operational on Tuesday, Wingspan can be accessed via the Fair Complex/Hillsboro Airport Max Station.

This is a pet-friendly location. Be sure to bring your pet in a crate, along with collar, leash, ID tags, comfort items, food and bowls. Water will be available.

As of Monday afternoon, Wingspan had served 60 guests and 35 cats and dogs since Saturday.

“Even though Tuesday will be more bearable than the past few days, it’s still going to be hot and potentially dangerous for people without air conditioning,” said Washington County Emergency Manager John Wheeler. “Wingspan was available, and we have great volunteers to staff it, so it made sense to offer the space for another day. We strongly encourage people to come by to cool down for a few hours if they need a break from the heat.”

The Beaverton City Library will also offer their cooling space in the Cathy Stanton Meeting Room on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. This is in addition to the library's regular hours.

Several other locations will be open Tuesday as well. Information about Washington County cooling spaces, hydration stations and splash pads can be found on the county’s map at https://bit.ly/stay-cool-wc
