Banks intersection project is finished ahead of schedule.
Media release

Washington County is celebrating a new traffic signal at the intersection of Main Street (OR 47), Banks Road, and Cedar Canyon Road.

The new traffic signal is the city’s second, providing safety improvements that will help move traffic more efficiently to meet the needs of the growing city.

"The City of Banks appreciates the partnership with Washington County in moving this project forward,” said Jolynn Becker, City Manager for Banks. “With the growth happening in the area, this project will enhance safety and improve traffic efficiency.”

Project enhancements include:

  • A new traffic signal to improve safety and traffic flow
  • Center turn lanes to reduce congestion
  • Improved sidewalks and ADA-complaint curb ramps on Main Street and Banks Road
  • Removal of unused railroad track
  • Additional streetlights for better nighttime visibility
  • Storm drainage and City water line improvements
  • “Welcome to Banks” sign installation

“This project is a great example of how local and regional partnerships can deliver real benefits to our communities,” said Stephen Roberts, Washington County’s Director of Land Use & Transportation. “These improvements not only make the intersection safer but also support the City of Banks’ long-term growth and address a priority in its Transportation System Plan.”

The $7.1 million improvement project was funded through the Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP). Construction began in January 2025 and is complete ahead of schedule. Plant establishment will continue through spring.

The project was a collaborative effort between Washington County, the City of Banks, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), which maintains OR 47.
