Can one of the thorniest intersections in Washington County be improved to meet the needs of both through traffic and the neighborhood? The juncture of Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, Oleson Road and Scholls Ferry Road in Raleigh Hills is legendary for confusion, congestion and traffic accidents. Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation is pleased to announce the start of work on the Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway/Oleson/Scholls Ferry Road Intersection Project. Recently the County executed an agreement with the Oregon Department of Transportation and Metro that allows this project to proceed. Project planning and design work for this project will be based on the county's 1996 transportation study results that called for realigning Oleson Road 600 feet to the east to address safety and congestion concerns.

Washington County has hired the engineering design firm CH2M Hill to provide planning and engineering services for this project. CH2M Hill will soon begin data collection efforts, including surveying and traffic counting during the month of May. Letters will be mailed to land owners and residents in the project area announcing the start of the survey work.

A public involvement process will begin this fall. This project is a multi-year effort paid for with County Major Streets and Transportation Improvement Project (MSTIP) 3C, Metro and federal funding. Washington County's Project Manager is Patrick Oakes. You may contact him at Washington County's Capital Project Management Division. Phone: 503-846-7800. Email: [email protected]

Added 5/28/09: There is no funding for construction, subsequent phases of design work or right-of-way acquisition and construction at this time. Timing of these future phases is subject to availability of funding.
