County Publishes Motor Carrier Reference Map

New tool targets truck drivers, improving navigation of road and bridge network
Media release

For Immediate Release: Monday, March 09, 2009

Sponsored by: Department of Land Use and Transportation

In an ongoing effort to provide the community with the latest information related to Washington County roadways, the county's Department of Land Use and Transportation is pleased to announce a new resource which illustrates all of the restrictions for trucks using the county's road and bridge system. The new reference map is available at www.wc-roads.com under the "Maps" heading. It illustrates three restrictions truck drivers typically encounter:

  • Weight restrictions
  • Height restrictions
  • "No Through Truck" routes

The map also highlights the countywide through-truck routes which avoid such restrictions.

The Washington County Roads Web site (www.wc-roads.com) continues to serve the community as a comprehensive source of information about road work and other activities on county roads, including construction zones, road closures and community events. By providing this information to truckers and motor carriers, Washington County hopes to assist drivers with their route selection. Following a well-thought out route improves time and fuel efficiency, and also preserves road infrastructure not designed to carry heavy truck traffic.

Washington County is committed to building and maintaining the best transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and to operating the county roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
