Four Month Closure of Old Highway 47 begins June 17

For Immediate Release: Monday, May 13, 2013

Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation will temporarily close Old Highway 47 at Scoggins Creek for approximately four months, beginning Monday, June 17. The closure is necessary in order to replace the bridge over Scoggins Creek, located between Scoggins Valley Road and Fluke Drive. We anticipate the road will be reopened to traffic no later then October 29, 2013; however, unforeseen circumstances could result in a longer closure.

During the closure, all traffic, including pedestrians and bicyclists, will be detoured to Scoggins Valley Road and Highway 47. Detour signs will be provided along the designated detour route. (Detour Map)

The existing bridge over Scoggins Creek was originally built in 1921 and is the oldest bridge in Washington County’s bridge inventory. The bridge is substandard and functionally obsolete. This bridge will be replaced with a new wider structure that will enhance safety and improve waterway habitat underneath the bridge. 

This project is funded through the Oregon Department of Transportation’s Highway Bridge Program.
