Huge Beams Being Delivered to Hillsboro for River Road Bridge

Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation announces that bridge beams for the River Road bridge reconstruction project in south Hillsboro will be delivered to the job site on Tuesday May 19th and Thursday May 21st. These beams are 183 feet long and are the longest precast/prestressed non-segmental bridge beams in Oregon and possibly the Northwest. They are made and produced in Harrisburg, Oregon and will be trucked up I-5 and OR 217. The county expects some traffic delays around SW Tualatin Valley Highway, Brookwood Avenue and Witch Hazel Road in Hillsboro, and also at the Witch Hazel/River Road intersection.  

River Road between Rood Bridge Road and Witch Hazel Road is intended to remain closed to all the traveling public, including pedestrians and bicyclists, through January 2010. However, the project is ahead of schedule and will most likely reopen early fall 2009. Detour routes are posted. Local access to residences and businesses and for emergency services and service providers is allowed, but no through access is available.   

The improvements will replace the bridge over Rock Creek and widen River Road between Rood Bridge Road and Davis Road to three lanes with bike lanes and sidewalks.  The project is funded by Washington County's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP), in partnership with the City of Hillsboro, Clean Water Services and the Hillsboro School District.
