January 22 open house for 10th Avenue (Cornelius) improvement project

Washington County's Department of Land Use & Transportation invites the public to an Open House on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 for the 10th Avenue improvement project in Cornelius. The event will be held at the Cornelius City Council Chambers, 1310 N Adair St, Cornelius. The public is welcome to drop by anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. to learn more about the proposed design for the project and to provide comments for the project team. No formal presentation is planned.

This project will widen 10th Avenue between the railroad crossing, located just south of Baseline Street, to Holladay Street. Improvements include one travel lane in each direction with an intermittent center turn lane and curb extensions also known as “bulb outs” (similar to the section of OR 8 recently improved in Cornelius). Additional improvements include the installation of bicycle facilities and sidewalks. The existing stop-controlled railroad crossing on the north end of the project will also be replaced with the standard gated crossing. These improvements will enhance the flow and safety of freight trucks, farm equipment, vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians.

This project is funded through phase 3d of the County’s Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP). Construction is anticipated to begin spring 2014.
