LUT employee named Top Gun

A heavy equipment operator with Washington County Department of Land Use &Transportation (LUT) was named "Top Gun" by the Oregon Association of County Engineers and Surveyors (OACES). 

Justin Kivett, who has been with LUT for seven years, was the top performer in the two-day OACES 24th Annual Skills Demo and Safety Conference. The skills demonstration involves six areas of competition. Kivett placed first in the backhoe, chains on/off and truck plow categories. He was awarded Top Gun for earning the highest overall score in all areas.

"I have been running heavy equipment since I was a little kid," Kivett said. "I enjoyed the competition. I got to meet a lot of people from different municipalities and make some friends."

The Operations and Maintenance Division manages public rights of way, bridges, culverts, paved and gravel roads, roadside drainage ditches and vegetation. The division provides 24-hour emergency response including weather-related incidents such as sanding, plowing and closing roads due to flooding, landslides and storm-related debris. All work performed by Operations and Maintenance crews is guided by Washington County's Best Management Practices for Routine Road Maintenance to avoid or minimize impacts to the environment.
