March 22 MSTIP 3D Open House

Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation invites the public to a March 22 Open House to learn more about potential road projects being considered for funding in an upcoming phase of the county’s Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP 3D). No formal presentation is planned, and the public is invited to drop in anytime between 5 and 8 p.m. Staff from Washington County will be available to answer questions regarding the MSTIP program and the MSTIP 3D project candidates. The event will be held in the Beaverton High School cafeteria, 13000 SW 2nd Street, Beaverton (map link: http://g.co/maps/fkdtu).

Those unable to attend the March 22 open house may access an online MSTIP 3D “virtual open house” from March 23 through April 8. A link to the virtual open house will be available at the county’s MSTIP website at www.co.washington.or.us/mstip. You can sign up to a MSTIP e-mail subscription service at http://washtech.co.washington.or.us/subscriptions to receive an e-mail notification when the virtual open house opens and when new information is posted to our MSTIP or MSTIP 3d web pages.

MSTIP is a key piece of the county’s transportation funding strategy. This unique and innovative pay-as-you-go program uses local property taxes to fund major transportation improvements countywide.  Since 1986, MSTIP has funded 111 projects throughout the county totaling $555 million.  These projects have improved mobility for all road users—cars, freight, transit, bicycles and pedestrians.

We anticipate a total allocation of $175 million for MSTIP 3D—an average of $35 million per year.  That’s enough funding to construct only about half of the project candidates that will be presented.  Public input will help inform MSTIP decision makers on the Washington County Coordinating Committee and the Washington County Board of Commissioners in the coming months as they consider which MSTIP 3D projects to advance.  MSTIP 3D will not require a tax increase or new taxes—funding will come from existing property tax revenues.
