Meek, Scotch Church roads closure extended through May 1

The closure of Meek and Scotch Church roads has been extended through May 1, due to weather-related delays that have impacted construction of the roundabout at Jackson School, Meek and Scotch Church roads.

Record low temperatures and unusual amounts of snow and ice delayed the pouring of concrete in January. Steady rain now threatens to cause further delays.

"A lot of work has already been completed," said William Hunter, project manager. "It may seem like we could open the road, but the concrete has to set, and the roundabout cannot open for 28 days after the last segment is poured."

Concrete requires specific weather conditions in order to set correctly; inadequate conditions will cause the concrete to crack or deteriorate prematurely, requiring replacement. The roundabout will realign Meek and Scotch Church roads to allow for safer entry to Jackson School Road.
